Cricket in Sark has been played in many forms over a number of years. In the early years the majority of the games played were against teams from Guernsey and were mostly of short duration, with more time spent on socialising.
Just over 10 years ago there was a change in the status of Sark Cricket with the annual match against the Lords Taverners. This fixture gave our players the chance to play against some of the top names in the cricket world. We have had some very good players test their nerve at the Field Of Dreams. The outfield or as some called it “The Minefield” was very rough and this was a great leveller when playing against legends like Allan Lamb, Mike Gatting and the fearsome Andy Caddick.
The Sark Cricket Weekend has also been graced with several TV stars with the regular appearance of Robert Powell, Tim Rice and some of the cast of Eastenders including the late Wendy Richards.
The move to our new cricket field has enabled us to advance our game and with the indoor facilities we have been able to practice in the Winter. We have a full fixture list each summer against teams from the Channel Islands as well as games against the M.C.C. in August and of course the Lords Taverners in July.
We are looking forward to being part of the Four Islands Challenge and supporting the Cystic Fibrosis charity.
