Walkovers took to the field against Lutea Mavericks with Hannsie Vosser making his debut as captain. He decided to open the bowling with Simon Pugsley and start Matt Cox as wicket keeper, Pugsley used his slingy action to initially restrict the opening pair of Ricketts and Wilson with good support at the other end from the increasingly reliable Elliot Griffiths. When Dan Cox came into the attack he took the wicket of Wilson thanks to a fine catch on the boundary by Griffiths. Pugsley bowled out his spell and was rewarded by clean bowling Gilham for 12. Mavericks batsmen Ricketts and Dean impressed by both retiring, Morris then came into bat and was quickly dismissed thanks to some fine bowling by Griffiths. The Polish express soon got in on the act dismissing Harnon with Pugsley back in as wicketkeeper taking the catch. When Ricketts and Dean returned to the middle it became the Vibert show, not having touched the ball up until the end he sprang into life as the JEP will describe. “Dean was dismissed following an excellent on-handed catch off the ceiling by Craig Vibert and eight balls later Vibert kicked the ball from an acute angle behind square leg to run Ricketts out for the final wicket in the last over.” To be fair the catch was taken more by luck than judgment and the run out just shows what St Lawrence FC reserves are missing. Mavericks still finished there innings with a decent 111 all out of 11.1 overs.
Walkovers opened the batting with Pugsley and Matt Cox, it was Puglsey who faced first and in the first over edged one behind to the back wall and Ricketts took a brilliant return catch off the wall to dismiss him for just a single. This brought Vibert to the crease looking to build off his performance in the field soon after Vibert took to the middle Matt Cox was bowled by the accurate Morris. The skipper Vosser took to the middle and looked to rebuild and did play some impressive shots on his was to 25. Gritthis came and went without troubling the scorecard and then Vibert called a suicidal single to run out Coxy for a duck. Vosser was back at the crease with the patient Vibert and was soon dismissed by Wilson. This left the teams hopes pinned on Vibert but his batting was pedestrian at best finishing unbeaten on 26 from 11.1 overs some 44 runs short of the target Walkovers were chasing.
