Walkovers B v Durrell

Having drawn the last game against Sloggers, Walkover B were looking to record their first win of the season against the Zoo (yes this was the same the team that beat us last year with 4 players).

Having won the toss for a third time in a row Walkover B decided to field and Dan and Spencer got the team off to a good start with only 10 runs coming off the first 2 over’s. After that the openers started to find there range with 3 boundaries coming in the next 2 over’s, however Dan and Spencer removed both openers to leave the zoo at 56-2 at the half way make. Jake and Hansie were able to continue the great work and with some good fielding the zoo collapsed to 90 all out with Hansie removing the last batsman with a direct throw to run him out.

Simon who was still hung over from his holiday opened the batting with Matt with the team confident that they could chase the runs down and avenge last years defeat. However disaster struck in the first over with confusing between the running with Matt being run out off the second ball of the innings. This brought in Dan and he and Simon steadied the innings for the next few over’s. Then suddenly Walkovers lost 3 wickets in the space of 5 balls. Having been bounced off the penultimate ball of the 5th over Simon was bowled off the last ball off the over. In the next over Dan was left stuck outside of his crease and was stumped and was quickly followed by Spencer being cleaned bowled for a maiden. This bought in Jake for the hat trick ball but defended it to safety. Suddenly form being in a comfortable position Walkovers were struggling being 28-4 at the half way stage and the Zoo taking control of the match. Hansie and Jake steadied the ship and started putting pressure of the field and pushing Walkovers towards victory. The suddenly Jake was given out LBW by the umpire (Bradley) despite an inside edge onto his pads. This left Hansie needing to get 24 off the last 2 over’s. With 14 coming off the penultimate over this left Walkover needing 10 off the last over to win. With four runs coming off the first 2 balls Hansie had but Walkovers in sight of a great win. Unfortunately off the third ball of the over Jake had backed up to far and was promptly run out leaving The Zoo to win the match by four runs.
