Centurions v Walkovers A

With the team picked and some words of encouragement from Pats, Walkovers walked into this game knowing a defeat would put them bottom of the League but a victory and some bonus points could hopefully push them further up the table. After missing the last match Pats had once again selected himself for the relegation battle in the place of "Boom Boom" Le Roux.

El Capitan won the toss and put Walkovers into bat, opening with the left arm express bowling from Bouch and some wobblers from Paul "Gringo" Michel, Walkovers made a good start conceding only 19 runs of the first three over's. The fourth over started with some wayward bowling with Paul dispatched for 8 runs off his first two balls before a sublime one handed "has he dropped it, has he caught it" catch from Pats got Walkovers first wicket of the game, a big wicket as well with Danny Bertram out for 10.

With that wicket brought a hasty decision from Pats to bring himself on to bowl and things started to look bleak for Walkovers with Pats going for 20 in his first over, seeing Coleman retiring with 24 not out. Pats then turned to the steady Michel and Naylor, to steady the ship with 10 runs coming from the next two over's including the two wickets of David and M Carolan.

El Capitan then thought he would have another go at bringing his economy rate down but his first two balls went for 4 and 6, but then Pats justified his decision by getting the wicket of Helius "grunter" Pretorius with a glorious catch from Rochey behind the stumps after Paul Michel had dropped him the ball before. Naylor bowled the next over for 5 runs which saw T Carolan dismissed from a controversial run out from Rochey who thought it would be quicker to take the bails off with his elbow than the ball.

Pats was about to bowl the next over and had the ball in his hand before Bouch posed the question "should his stronger bowlers not be bowling the final over's" to which Pats threw the ball to Bouch who got the last man Coleman out for 35 helped by another great catch behind the stumps.

Bouchard 2.2-12-1
Michel 3-29-2
Pats 2-36-1
Naylor 2-9-1

This meant Walkovers were chasing 89 to win, and Pats had given his openers strict instructions to bat slowly and keep wickets in hand. Bouch and Naylor stuck to the Captains orders and had scored 25 of 4.1 over's before Bouchard, buoyed by scoring two sixes in previous weeks tried again and was bowled. Roche joined Naylor at the crease and steadied the innings, until Roche also tried the big shot and got caught for 6. Naylor then showed them how it was done hitting the Grunter for 6, then tried the same shot again the next over and was out for 22.

This brought Patterson to the crease with 38 needed of 29 balls, with English playing some nonchalant off drives and exuberant flicks of his leg, Walkovers felt it wouldn't be long until we won the game and we were right with Patterson equally as impressive with his batting meaning Walkovers won the game with 11 balls left.

Bouchard 12 bowled
Naylor 22 C & Bowled
Roche 6 Caught
English 25 not out
Patterson 18 not out
Michel DNB

And for the second time this season the Captain walked away with a smile on his face knowing Walkovers had picked up 14 points!!!
