Following a big win for Jersey Post against the Zoo, Walkovers B were now Bottom of the table and were in great danger of being relegated, Having played the two strongest teams in the league Walkovers B new that the had destiny in their own hand as they had to play all the teams that were in the bottom half.
The captain made several changes bring in Coynie and the Mitchell (the proposed Saviour of the B team) in place for Matt Cox and Coley. Having won the toss Jake decided to field as 5 of his player had already arrived and there was still 15 mins left for Adam to arrive (and he had already confirmed to the captain that he will be there). Unfortunately Adam was late and the captain was made to look a fool choosing to field without having a full team. 3 over’s passed before Adam arrived and with some good bowling from Coynie and Hansie only 17 runs were conceded and Sloggers had lost 1 wicket. With the arrival of Adam he was immediately bought in to bowl to save Hansie and Coynie for the last few over’s. Having already upset the captain by turning up late he knew he was under pressure to perform and he did not disappoint with 3 wicket falling in the three over’s he bowled (one run out and one bowled and one caught by Hansie) with Jake bowling alongside Adam Sloggers were 73 -4 after 10 over’s although it could have been worse for Sloggers who benefited from a few marginal decisions. Coynie and Hansie finished off well with Sloggers finishing on 97-5 off their 12 over’s.
Bowling
Jake 3-25-0
Hansie 3-25-1
Adam 3-20-2
Coynie 3-21-1
Mitchell (Saviour of the B team) was feeling the pressure and asked the captain not to open and to bat him at 3 this meant Simon and Adam opened. After a solid start Walkovers were 33 without lost after 5 over’s. Simon then went big to try and up the run rate and was promptly bowled by Steve Hopper. In came the Saviour who played some elegant shots unfortunately they were straight to fielder and he soon departed for six. Adam soon retired on 25 and Walkovers had 2 new batsman in Coynie and Hansie. Both players started to knock the ball around an keep up with the rate after 10 over’s Walkovers were 80-2 need 18 runs off the last two over’s. With 10 runs coming off the penultimate over only 8 more runs were needed. Coynie hit a 4 and then 2 to retire which bought in Jake at the non strikers end. Only 2 runs were needed off 3 balls, the same situation as in the last game with Sloggers which you may remember ended in a draw. The 4 ball of the over was going mile wide, but the pressure was mounting on Hansie who somehow managed to get the toe end of the bat on the ball for a dot. The penultimate ball of the innings was then tapped to the leg side and Jake quickly called a run. You could hear the crowd shouting run Forest run and fortunately and having made it Walkovers won the game by 4 wickets with 1 ball to spare.
