Walkovers Ladies v Exiles, Sunday 3rd July 2011
It was our first match v’s Exiles and I think we competed well. They batted first and set us a big target of 185-8 off 25 overs. This was probably too big a target for us to chase but out aim was to bat out the 25 overs and get at least 100. We scored 120-9, and batted all bar the last ball.
The bowling was generally good and we bowled 15 wides compared to their 30 extras. Paula set the tone with a stunning first spell of 4 wickets in 3 overs, one being a 2 wicket maiden. Lauren, Skip and Sarah got the other wickets, 7 of the 8 wickets being bowled and the other was a caught and bowled. Lags gets the prize for most athletic and brave fielding stop showing exactly why she is a goalkeeper! We do have areas to work on in the field but generally it was a good fielding effort.
We lost some early wickets but rallied to score an average of just under 5 an over which was a respectable run rate against them. All in all I was happy with our performance and it shows that we have a good squad when at least 5 players were unavailable. It was great to see Caroline come through her first match with a smile on her face :)
Hopefully we can arrange another match against them and we also have Paula's work colleagues to play at some stage. I am trying to get a match v’s Masterclass for us and we should have some Walkovers teams to play.
