Walkovers Rebel v Natwest

This was the first ever match for Walkovers Rebels and was eagerly anticipated by all players and supporters. Natwest had players turning up late so Walkovers would be fielding. The Polish express Hansie Vosser had the honour of bowling the first ever over in Rebels history, he ran in the batsman played the ball straight back to Hansie who took a good low catch, OUT. Unbelievably the Rebels had a wicket with there first ever ball; the celebrations began what a start for the rebels. The rebels then kept it reasonably tight for the next 5 overs without taking a wicket thanks to the bowling efforts of Vosser, McGinness and Coley. Jake Patel was then brought into the attack and took a wicket after a good catch at mid off by Matt Cox, Patel went on to record economical figures of 1-22 off his 3 overs. Dan Cox took a while to get back in the groove with his first over but with the worst ball of the lot took a key wicket. Next ball Coxy was hit to the boundary where Captain Coyne was waiting to take a regulation catch but No straight through the hands for a boundary. Hansie was brought back into the attack for the last over of Natwests innings and after the last ball of the innings was given a No ball his next attempt was skied very high, Elliot Griffiths made up a lot of ground to take a spectacular catch. This left Natwest on 126 for 4 off there 12 overs a competitive but obtainable score for Walkovers Rebels.

Walkovers sent out opening batsmen Pugsley and Vibert to begin the chase, Pugsley faced first and hit 15 runs off the first to give the Rebels a good start. The second over the running between the wickets between the two was suicidal with chances for both to be run out. Soon after both openers departed with Pugsley skiing a chance and then Vibert edging to the gulley who took a good catch. Mitchell was in at 3 and batted sensibly, Griffiths was batting at four and he departed for 4 runs after not grounding his bat on a quick single. Matt Cox came in at 5 and made 1 run then was caught in the deep. Captain Coyne came in at six and smashed his way to a hugely entertaining 55 in about 4 overs this knock included 4 six’s and 4 fours. The knock by Coyne set Walkovers up with a great chance of a cup upset with Mitchell still in and batting patiently but the Hansie, Coley and McGinness all fell cheaply without troubling the scorecard much, Coley did cream a cover drive for 4 in the 3 balls he faced. With one over to go Walkovers needed 9 runs to win with Dan Cox (trying to make up for his cup final performance) at the crease with Mitchell who was going steady with 22 patient runs. Mitchell had the strike on the final over and first ball up they gave him the single to put Coxy on strike. The bowler ran in with the pressure on Coxy to deliver he pitched it Coxy got forward and smashed a cover drive to the boundary, next ball is short and Coxy this time pulled it to the boundary for a 4 securing Walkovers Rebels a dramatic victory in there first match. What a start for the Rebels can they go on and put a cup run together?
