The following events took place between 5:50pm – 8:30pm at FB3.
The scene was set walkovers fresh from a win against Sloggers CC, where riding high, feeling almost superhuman, some where about 10,000 feet up above sea level, flying back from London, in a very rickety plane, one of the Walkovers members was later heard to be saying” that wasn’t a F*@in plane, it was a flying fart circulator”.
With no players it would be a deciding factor if Walkovers Rebels were to be put into bat, fortunately the Colts where keen to get a full game and offered to field first.
This gave the Rebels players who would be now be landing a chance to arrive at the game, but they needed a some magic and staying power from the opening two batsmen. In step Matt Cox and Tristan Pope.
It is at this point that I feel that I should point out that the colts are by no means an experienced team in cricket, or in life for that fact with an average age of 14.
Matt Cox faced the first ball, he needed a good score, and the team needed him to play a long and successful innings. Gone, a great delivery from the Colts opening bowler tucks up Coxy, Diamond Duck and walkovers feel a very slight and a very human wave of panic wash over them.
Matt Cox hadn’t scored any runs, he hadn’t played any shots, but he had bought the team enough time, for the lads to get in from the airport, in steps S Pugsley.
Simon looked in fine form picking up seven quick runs with pope chipping in with a well guided single and some usain bolt style running between the wickets (shoe laces). Simon to face, he lifts his bat high into the air, takes an almighty swing, loses his balance and falls over his wickets, OUT. A Stewards enquiry later confirmed that there were no banana skins on the wicket “it is out finding that there were no banana skins on the wicket, he just fell over” Mr A Steward.
Walkovers where in trouble, in steps Cannan, he blocks a few well placed deliveries, then gets hit on the pads, OUT LBW. Rumours are flying about that it was some form of revenge for an incident in the previous game, Stewards are looking into it.
In steps Migs who looks in good form, but the fielders have him sighted and boundries are hard to come by.
Tristan hits a single
Migs edges a fine delivery to the keeper who takes a catch, in walks’ Steve Mc G. Who immediately start to hit the ball around the pitch, like no other player has been able to in this innings.
Tristan hits a Single
It is worth mentioning that Tristan hit more leg byes than runs and was doing a Stirling job of sticking around at the wicket which where captains orders. He now had to go for it took an almighty swing and was caught, but left the field knowing he had done a job.
In strolls coley, who immediately hit 12 runs off 4 balls, this is what the rebels needed, but they he was bowled, in steps hansie who along with steve Mc G, manage to accumulate 57 runs in a very short space of time.
Dan Cox and C Vibert made brief appearance hitting 2 runs between them and walkovers finished on a fairly ragged 115 -9. Top scores Hansie and Mr Extras on 32 runs each.
Walkovers took to the field and put the batsman on the back foot with some fine bowling from D-Cox 22 for 3 off 3 - M Cox 18 for 1 off 3 - Hansie 13 for 1 off 3 and Steve Mc G 6 for 1 off 1. Spencer was being read like an open book at GCSE time and went for 36 for 1 off 4.
The fielding was at times brilliant with pope vibert, Cannan and Migs all putting their boidies on the line to stop the ball running for boundries.
After a shaky start Walkovers showed true grit to beat a team who still get pocket money, well done lads.
