Thank you for taking the time to read the first of what will be a regular communication from Walkovers Cricket Club, letting you know what has been happening both behind the scenes and on the field.
This first newsletter is about letting you know the planned events for the club over the next few months and ensuring you are aware of what is happening with the club moving forward.
Weekend 1st Team
Unfortunately over the past couple of years, we have sometimes struggled to get teams together with pull-outs, injuries and absence really affecting the 1st team squad and having a knock-on affect to our other weekend sides. Mark Chipperfield has worked hard to get teams together (alongside other club members such as Andrew Bouchard and Hansie Vosser) despite some difficult times. Unfortunately Mark will be unable to commit to the full season this year due to other commitments and will be stepping aside as captain. I'm sure you'll all agree that we have a lot to thank Mark for over the past few seasons, including our T20 league success earlier this season, and look forward to watching him playing again next season.
The committee have agreed to continue working together to ensure we have a 1st team next season and will provide the captain with the necessary support he requires.
We are very pleased to announce that Michael Ahier has agreed to become the new 1st team captain and that he is committed to ensure Walkovers remain competitive. He will be in touch with those players involved as soon as possible and looks forward to increasing the player pool at the winter nets.
Indoor League - from Monday October 3rd
Walkovers have two teams in the Indoor League this year, and this league commences on Monday October 3rd. Should you wish to participate this year, please contact Hansie Vosser or respond to this email.
Walkovers Social Evening - Saturday 5th November
The annual awards evening is taking a slightly different format this year and being held in the function room at Planet Pool & Snooker. Rather than a formal affair, the idea is to encourage the club members to get together in a more social environment for a cheaper cost. Tickets are £10 a head which include the awards (trophies for each team and all-club awards) and a delicious buffet.
The evening will start from 7.30pm with awards, buffet followed by socialising and some pool next door. If you'd like to attend the evening, please contact Matt Cox, Bradley Vautier or respond to this email.
Walkovers AGM - Wednesday 9th November
Held at 8pm at the Optimists Club, this is your chance to have a say about how the club is run. As previously mentioned, there will be some changes to the club structure and approach this year so please make every effort to attend the most important meeting of the year.
Thank you for your time
